The Bands

Heliopause They say; In a world increasingly dominated by noise and light and chaos and confusion, sometimes the most heartfelt – or violent – gesture is one of almost complete stillness. The ability to remain still at the centre of all things and observe the subtle machinations of that which surrounds us – sometimes a whispered word can be the loudest sound.
Jennie Cruse makes beautiful music. Of that there can be no doubt. You might even have heard one of her tunes in the British indie film ‘Everything’. For a while now Jennie has been working on her debut solo album. We’re privileged to have heard the whole record and can’t wait for it to be finished
Sparrow are two girls and two boys from Brighton and Cambridge, England, who create intelligent, atmospheric, sparse but beautiful guitar music. Their songs are constructed using close boy/girl harmonies set against primal rhythmic arrangements. The music is minimal, created by using raw unprocessed sounds and unflinchingly honest lyrics.
The Sarah Michelles. What can you say about them that hasn’t already been quoted in some BBC-4 stuffy nosed documentary? The band really are that legendary! Even though they haven’t done anything of worth except self-release two amazing albums choc full of classic power pop tunes.
Turncoat met at school and grew up playing music together. In 2008, after a short stint on Double Dragon [Charlotte Hatherley, Winnebago Deal] the band signed to Regal/Parlophone and released the euphoric ‘Wasted on You’. The Sun immediately gave the band 4 out of 5 in a glorious national review: “Soaring melodies and yearning vocals recall the classic indie of bands like Gene. Stunning!”

Union Jackals are a litter of three from London Town. Initially conceived via a dream involving other-world abduction, the Jackals are a tactile outfit revolving around the core of Carl Mann, Paul Reeves and Stephen Barnes.

The Valentines The Valentines may or may not have originated in Jersey. That’s right, the land of Tax dodgers, Bergerac and uuummm….well you get the picture. They write incredibly catchy pop tunes and then mess them all up when they play live because they like a DRINK or fifty before playing.
Villareal Formed in 2002, Villareal make melodic and understated pop music, influenced by bands such as Beulah, Teenage Fanclub, The Clientele and Sparklehorse. During this time the band has built up a loyal following, especially in the USA, Canada and mainland Europe, thanks to the Jango Airplay network in New York.
White Star Liners White Star Liners make music. Not boats. Described as a potent mix of  U.S alternative indie distilled with a peculiarly English pop sensibility, the band’s story began with the self-released ‘The Rural Electrification’ at the tail end of 2008. This picked up glowing reviews and opened doors in Europe. The recent ‘Occam’s Razor’ EP cranked up the indie rock and the bands second album is hugely anticipated here at Numbskull HQ.
